Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today praised BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying Modi stands for ‘Movement Of Developing India’ Sukhbir said the future generation would remember Modi as a "catalyst" who took India from being a developing nation to the list of most developed nations of the world and dared the Congress to compete with NDA on development agenda AFP He was talking to reporters while campaigning for SAD-BJP candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat Prem Singh Chandumajra The SAD president said "NDA has an experienced and visionary prime ministerial candidate who has proved his efficiency by bringing in economical revolution in Gujarat I want to coin an abbreviation ‘Movement of Developing India’ to describe Modi’s personality in a few words" Earlier addressing a rally here he gave a clarion call to the voters to vote for performance and appealed to them to draw a comparison between NDA and the Congress-led UPA besides comparing the candidates of SAD and Congress "On one hand you have option to choose a committed and experienced Economics scholar Prem singh Chandumajra and on the other there is a candidate (Ambika Soni) forced on you as previous Congress candidate (Ravneet Singh Bittu) ran away from the constituency" he added Lashing out at the "anti people and anti-Punjab" policies of the Congress he said the NDA government had kept the level of inflation under control while the nation was growing at the rate of 8 percent per annum He alleged that Congress leaders from the state also followed the age-old anti-Punjab policies of the party and did their best to stop any development project brought to the state by the SAD-BJP alliance PTI By: PTI | Mumbai | Updated: November 22 2016 3:09 pm Actor Ranvir Shorey feels his potential hasn’t been tapped by the mainstream cinema and he finds his existence in the alternative independent films more relevant Top News Actor Ranvir Shorey feels his potential hasn’t been tapped by the mainstream cinema and he finds his existence in the alternative independent films more relevant The 44-year-old actor known for his performances in films like Mithya Titli and Khosla Ka Ghosla feels he doesn’t relate to commercial cinema’s lesser sensible approach “I haven’t got the kind of films from mainstream cinema which I would have wanted But then mainstream cinema has a different bunch of people who are happy working with each other which is fine “I have more of an existence in the alternative independent model There’s a watering down of sensibilities in commercial films and I don’t seem to fit into that” Ranvir told PTI The actor says big films are revenue driven but he prefers to stick to creative satisfaction “These big stars and filmmakers are smarter than me but when they make films for the lowest common denominator I have a trouble fitting into that model I can’t dumb down for the audience because I believe my audience is at least as smart as I am “There are two different ways of doing it They (people who are part of commercial cinema) are driven by revenue and I am driven by creative satisfaction” Ranvir says his aim is to constantly strengthen the independent cinema and to make it stand in front of huge “commercial Bollywood” projects “When you hear Bollywood you think about everything mainstream song-and-dance hero-heroine I don’t think that will ever go away In fact Bollywood has become culturally so huge that it consumes everything that is outside it “From my end I try to strengthen the independent section Many of my colleagues and I do films which push the envelope and try to bring some change” he said Ranvir will now be seen in “Moh Maaya Money” a thriller co-starring Neha Dhupia The film directed by debutant Munish Bhardwaj is about a young real estate agent who tries to pull off a scam but things go wrong Ranvir says the film has become more relevant after demonetisation of currency “‘Moh Maya Money’ has become extremely relevant now because of demonetisation The story has black money as its backdrop and black money is what everyone has been talking about these days “It is a thriller set in Delhi I play a middle-class guy This is a space accessible to me because I have played middle-class Delhiites in my previous films” The movie is scheduled to release on November 25 For South Mumbai as ‘nightlife zones’ (Representational Image) Top News In a major push to nightlife culture in the commercial capital Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Monday instructed city authorities to set up zones where eateries pubs bars and entertainment hotspots can remain open throughout the night The initial plan is to designate non-residential areas in South Mumbai — Veer Nariman Road Ballard Pier and Horniman Circle — as ‘nightlife zones’ Such special entertainment zones would be replicated in other parts of the city after gauging the response to the pilot scheme said highly placed sources in the government Fadnavis issued the missive during a meeting with office-bearers of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) which had been pushing the proposal BJP’s Member of Parliament Poonam Mahajan who has been an advocate of Mumbai’s nighlife plan was present too Earlier during the monsoon session of the state legislature the government has passed a Bill allowing shops malls and commercial establishments to remain open round the clock The state is however yet to formulate rules for its implementation During the meeting Monday Fadnavis directed government officials to expedite this process Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta and Police Commissioner Dattatray Padsalgikar were meanwhile instructed to finalise the nightlife zone proposals to be run on a pilot basis Sources said the suggestion for the South Mumbai locations came from the CM While the restaurateurs were pushing for the rollout of such zones across Mumbai Fadnavis backed the idea of running pilots after the Mumbai Police chief raised certain issues pertaining to the city’s law and order The CM also directed the officials to formulate a dedicated policy to encourage food trucks across Mumbai “The food trucks would do well in business districts and tourism spots” he said adding that women self-help groups in Mumbai could also benefit from it The NRAI delegation demanded reduction in the number of permissions for setting up a hotel to which the CM said this was an ongoing reform asking the officials to further streamline the process The recent shutting down of rooftop bars was discussed too A probe that showed these watering holes had been utilising one-day permit meant for special functions and parties to commercially serve liquor had led to the excise department cracking the whip Backing the department’s action sources said Fadnavis asked the officials to consider the feasibility of framing an independent liquor permit policy for rooftop bars Officials said the Mumbai municipality too was likely to take up the much-delayed proposal to permit rooftop restaurants in parts of the city soon For all the latest Mumbai News download Indian
