DONEGAL TD DISMISSES RESIGNATION LETTER MOVE AS A STUNT

first_imgA protest group wants Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh to sign his own resignation letter and send it to Taoiseach Enda Kenny.Joe McHugh TDDonegal Action Against Austerity are to make the bizarre request when they hold a protest outside Deputy McHugh’s office in Letterkenny today. But Deputy McHugh has already dismissed the move as a “stunt.” The group has scripted a letter which they are demanding the Donegal politician sign and send to his boss. The letter claims that the Carrigart-based TD can no longer mislead the people of Donegal, claiming he is now seen as a traitor by his own people. The letter finishes by pleading with the Fine Gael leader to see sense.“Enda, I hope that you will accept this resignation in good grace and will realise the error of your ways. I also look forward to you joining me on the dole queue as soon as possible so that you may bring some humility into your life, but I suppose there is no chance of that happening given your arrogant ways.” However Deputy McHugh said he had no comment to make other than: “It’s just a stunt and not worth talking about.”This is the full text of the letter which will be handed to Deputy McHugh at his office later today.Dear Enda,Please accept my resignation from the Fine Gael Party and from my position as a T.D.Following your unfair, unjust and inhuman attack on the poor and vulnerable of Ireland, and especially on the people of Donegal, I find that I am unable to continue representing Fine Gael and find the position of T.D. untenable. The lies and double talk which Fine Gael put forward on a continuous basis goes against whatever principles I have left. Your expectation from me to carry on misleading the people of Donegal and Ireland leaves me in the invidious position of being branded a traitor to these people, especially to the unemployed youth of Ireland, to our elderly and those with disability, whom you have constantly put in jeopardy through your callous policies of cuts in services and sly imposition of stealth taxes. The forced migration of our youth leaves families broken in their wake. These policies are also responsible for driving people to suicide across the length and breadth of Ireland and where over four hundred vacant posts in Mental Health during 2013 have not been filled, which would have provided a backstop to this humanitarian crisis in our country. The taxes and cuts to the amount of approximately €3 billion could have been raised easily from the imposition of increase taxes on the wealthy and large corporations within Ireland.By closing the loopholes in the tax system for large corporation and ensuring and effective rate of 12.5% would have raised approximately €4 billion, more than enough to cover the budget deficit. A Financial Transaction Tax of 0.1% would raise a minimum of €1 billion.A Wealth Tax of 5% on those with assets of over €1 million would have raised approximately €3 billion.Calling a moratorium on interest payments of the national debt would amount a sum in excess of €8 billion in 2014, another €8 billion in 2015 and €9 billion in 2016 rising each year to an excess of €14 billion by 2032.So, obviously this legacy of austerity that you have landed us and our children with will continue into the foreseeable future and I find this unacceptable. It’s time to give this country back to it’s people in line with Article 6 of the Irish Constitution as set out below.Article 6All powers of government, legislative, executive and judicial, derive, under God, from the people, whose right it is to designate the rulers of the State and, in final appeal, to decide all questions of national policy, according to the requirements of the common good.Enda, I hope that you will accept this resignation in good grace and will realise the error of your ways. I also look forward to you joining me on the dole queue as soon as possible so that you may bring some humility into your life, but I suppose there is no chance of that happening given your arrogant ways.Yours Faithfully,Joe McHugh ………………………. DONEGAL TD DISMISSES RESIGNATION LETTER MOVE AS A STUNT was last modified: October 25th, 2013 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Donegal Action Against AusterityEnda KennyJoe McHughlast_img
