Detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of Tyrone teenager Arlene Arkinson today made a specific appeal about two mystery women on the 20th anniversary of Arlene’s murder.15-year-old Arlene was last seen in the early hours of 14 August 1994. She disappeared after a night out in Bundoran. In 2005 a 61 year old man stood trial for Arlene’s murder but was acquitted. In 2012, a derelict flat at Main Street in Castlederg was searched after new information became available to investigators. The officer now leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Karen Baxter, today disclosed that specimens of blood belonging to two women were found during the 2012 search.D/Superintendent Baxter said: “These blood specimens belong to two different women. Tests have confirmed they are not from Arlene. But neither specimen has registered on the national DNA database.“On the 20th anniversary of Arlene’s disappearance, I would ask that any woman who was in this flat, at 49a Main Street which has since been demolished, at any time to make contact with police. They have a story to tell and we want to hear it. Their assistance could be beneficial to the investigation.”Officers will be conducting a number of land searches in various parts of Tyrone and other locations over the coming months. In line with previous searches over the past number of years, this activity is designed to advance the ongoing police objectives of recovering Arlene’s remains and to progress the investigation. The searches will be carried out by a small team assisted by dog handlers and body recovery dogs. Like previous searches, these will be conducted on a planned roll-out, depending on weather conditions, availability of resources and operational commitments.D/Superintendent Baxter said: “This investigation will continue. It will be progressed as far as we can take it. Indeed, I can confirm that our enquiries have involved detectives interviewing a man in England.“While we acknowledge the pain this causes to Arlene’s family, police alone cannot solve this case or find Arlene. It is only with the help of the public that the person responsible will be brought to justice and the Arkinson family will find any degree of comfort.“Arlene’s family is being kept informed of these developments. We understand as much as we can their continuing grief and frustration. We will continue to do our utmost to bring this to a conclusion within an extremely complex investigative environment and diminishing opportunities. We would ask anyone with information to come forward.”The special incident room number to call is 028 7137 9783. After six straight weekends on the road, the Corsairs got to play in front of a home crowd on Monday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Feather River, 11-1 and 6-3.The second game was one that got away from the Redwoods women, who led for much of the contest before the Golden Eagles struck late with five runs in the final two innings to pull off the sweep.“We played great until we had four outs to go,” CR head coach Maggie White said. “I thought we should have come away with a split, so …
Sixty feet down in Gulf waters off the coast of Alabama, stumps of an old cypress forest have appeared. How can they be 52,000 years old when the wood still smells like cypress? The discovery was reported by Live Science. It includes a five-minute video tour of the area which the discoverers are keeping secret till it can be thoroughly documented. Hundreds of Bald Cypress stumps as large as two meters in diameter are found over a half-square-mile area, several miles from the coast of Mobile, Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico. Fish, anemones and other marine creatures have taken up residence in the forest, causing it to decay more rapidly. The video clip claims the stumps are 12,000 years old, but the text says they have been radiocarbon dated at 52,000 years old. The article claims that they might have been uncovered by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Before that, they may have been covered in sand, preventing oxygen from accelerating decomposition.Yet it appears incredible the trees could be that old. For one thing, “The forest contains trees so well-preserved that when they are cut, they still smell like fresh Cypress sap,” one of the divers said. For another, are scientists ready to claim that no hurricane of Katrina’s proportions occurred in the alleged 12,000 years since the trees sank below the surface? Now, the trees are decaying so rapidly, the discoverers fear scientists only have two years to examine the site and perform more radiocarbon or tree-ring date calculations. Divers said they could break off chunks of the wood with their hands.Update 7/30/13: Live Science reported that the wood is so fresh, efforts are underway to protect the forest before developers start harvesting it! “If salvage companies get their way, an underwater forest of 50,000-year-old trees only recently discovered could be destroyed to make high-end coffee tables.” No one is questioning the credibility of the date. “The trees were in such pristine condition that fresh sap oozed from the stumps when they were cut,” the article said.Learn to ask the questions the reporters don’t ask. None of them ever questions the evolutionary dates, even when they lead to absurdities, like expecting fresh-smelling wood to be 52,000 years old, or asking people to believe thousands of years went by with no hurricanes strong enough to expose the forest. And how did the forest last as it gradually sank, unless a catastrophe buried it rapidly? The presence of this preserved forest silently cries for a recent catastrophe.Creationists argue that radiocarbon dates are unreliable before the Flood, because the atmosphere changed drastically. Putting that together with the evolutionary absurdities, we can reason that the forest was probably buried around the time of the Flood or after. It’s a stretch, though, to think five thousand years went by without a disturbance, so it may be younger than that. The old date for such fresh wood, though, is clearly incredible. Hustlers focus on big outcomes. That focus is what allows the hustler to produce bigger outcomes than non-hustlers. To produce those big outcomes, the hustler must ignore smaller, less important outcomes. If something isn’t critical to producing a big outcome, the hustler ignores it or hires someone else to manage it.This idea is important. Your life is the sum total of the outcomes you produce, especially the results you produce in your most important relationships. The non-hustler focuses on small outcomes. They allow trivial things to distract them from larger outcomes. And this is a distinction worth noting (and changing). The hustler hires someone to do administrative work for her so she can focus on creating the value that only she can create. The non-hustler does the administrative work themselves, giving it far more weight than it deserves.I hear you thinking, “Wait, Iannarino. You hooked me here by saying hustlers do sweat the small stuff. What gives?”Hustlers focus on big outcomes, and they know all the details necessary to producing that outcome.I know one hustler who knows the metrics of his business at a level that is difficult to imagine. He can name his top 20 accounts, their revenue, their profit margin, the percentage of his business the account generates in sales and profit, and all the main people on his team who serve the client. He knows all the main contact’s names, their children’s names, and dozens of other details. He cares about every little detail.Another hustler I know keeps dozens of projects going at the same time. She knows the status on every project, the next action that must be taken, who is responsible for taking that action, and when it is due. Like the hustler in the paragraph above, she is mired in the details on the big things that matter. If it’s important to producing the outcome, she knows the details.Non-hustlers focus on things that are urgent. Non-hustlers focus on activities that, even if successfully completed, do nothing to produce a great outcome. The non-hustler thinks that they need to sweat the small stuff without recognizing that knowing and dealing with the details only matter if the outcome truly matters. Are you steeped in the details of your most important projects, your life’s work? Are you focused on the largest, most interesting, and legacy-building projects? Or are you spending your time on small outcomes that won’t move the needle? Essential Reading!
