Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have received a boost ahead of a potentially critical period, with Ramires signing a contract extension until June 2019. “I hope to be an important part of many more successes in the next four years.” Mourinho has selection issues ahead of the Liverpool contest, with striker Diego Costa’s rib to be assessed and winger Pedro back in training on Thursday. Chelsea have lost five of their 10 Premier League matches this season, leaving the Blues 11 points behind leaders Manchester City and leading to speculation over Mourinho’s future. The club’s statement earlier this month expressed support in the Portuguese, but stressed results had to improve and he had the squad to do it. Chelsea’s League Cup defence ended on Tuesday as Eden Hazard’s penalty was saved and there are three more games prior to the international break which could determine whether or not Mourinho continues as Blues boss. Liverpool are followed to Stamford Bridge by Dynamo Kiev, one of two sides above the Blues at the halfway point of Champions League Group G, before a Premier League trip to Stoke. The Brazil midfielder, who was linked with Juventus during the summer, has committed his future to the Blues, who are enduring a challenging season in defence of their Premier League title. Chelsea announced the deal on Thursday evening. Mourinho, who in August signed a four-year contract committing himself to Stamford Bridge until June 2019, was subject to the first vote of confidence of Roman Abramovich’s 12-year ownership on October 5. Since then, Chelsea have won one of their four matches – against a free-falling Aston Villa; the latest defeat was on penalties to Stoke in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup tie – while Mourinho has faced disciplinary action from the Football Association. The 52-year-old Portuguese had until 1800 on Thursday to respond to a misconduct charge following his half-time touchline dismissal at West Ham last Saturday. Mourinho is already appealing a separate £50,000 fine and suspended one-match stadium ban for comments made after the October 3 loss to Southampton, a result which prompted the vote of confidence. It is not expected either case will be heard before Saturday’s match with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Ramires is likely to start against Liverpool, with his energy key in midfield for the Blues. The 28-year-old joined from Benfica on a four-year deal in 2010 and has won every major club honour since switching to Stamford Bridge. Ramires, who has already made 241 appearances for the Blues, said on chelseafc.com: “I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. “My family and I are very happy here in London and in the past five years the club has lifted every major trophy. Sixty feet down in Gulf waters off the coast of Alabama, stumps of an old cypress forest have appeared. How can they be 52,000 years old when the wood still smells like cypress? The discovery was reported by Live Science. It includes a five-minute video tour of the area which the discoverers are keeping secret till it can be thoroughly documented. Hundreds of Bald Cypress stumps as large as two meters in diameter are found over a half-square-mile area, several miles from the coast of Mobile, Alabama in the Gulf of Mexico. Fish, anemones and other marine creatures have taken up residence in the forest, causing it to decay more rapidly. The video clip claims the stumps are 12,000 years old, but the text says they have been radiocarbon dated at 52,000 years old. The article claims that they might have been uncovered by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Before that, they may have been covered in sand, preventing oxygen from accelerating decomposition.Yet it appears incredible the trees could be that old. For one thing, “The forest contains trees so well-preserved that when they are cut, they still smell like fresh Cypress sap,” one of the divers said. For another, are scientists ready to claim that no hurricane of Katrina’s proportions occurred in the alleged 12,000 years since the trees sank below the surface? Now, the trees are decaying so rapidly, the discoverers fear scientists only have two years to examine the site and perform more radiocarbon or tree-ring date calculations. Divers said they could break off chunks of the wood with their hands.Update 7/30/13: Live Science reported that the wood is so fresh, efforts are underway to protect the forest before developers start harvesting it! “If salvage companies get their way, an underwater forest of 50,000-year-old trees only recently discovered could be destroyed to make high-end coffee tables.” No one is questioning the credibility of the date. “The trees were in such pristine condition that fresh sap oozed from the stumps when they were cut,” the article said.Learn to ask the questions the reporters don’t ask. None of them ever questions the evolutionary dates, even when they lead to absurdities, like expecting fresh-smelling wood to be 52,000 years old, or asking people to believe thousands of years went by with no hurricanes strong enough to expose the forest. And how did the forest last as it gradually sank, unless a catastrophe buried it rapidly? The presence of this preserved forest silently cries for a recent catastrophe.Creationists argue that radiocarbon dates are unreliable before the Flood, because the atmosphere changed drastically. Putting that together with the evolutionary absurdities, we can reason that the forest was probably buried around the time of the Flood or after. It’s a stretch, though, to think five thousand years went by without a disturbance, so it may be younger than that. The old date for such fresh wood, though, is clearly incredible. South African petrochemicals giant Sasol is to invest R8.4-billion to double the production of hard wax products by its Sasol Wax division in the country by 2014. The investment will be done in two phases, with the first phase coming into operation by 2012 and increasing Sasol Wax’s production capacity by 40%. The company has already completed the basic engineering and ordered some of the long lead items for this phase. The second phase will come into operation by 2014. “This large investment shows Sasol’s commitment to the wax business and enables us to grow with our customers in this market,” said Sasol Wax MD Johan du Preez. “It is in line with Sasol’s strategy to leverage our advanced proprietary technology and is also aligned with our longer term plans to significantly grow the chemicals business of the Sasol group.” Another important application is as an additive in the forming of PVC objects such as pipes or window frames. Lead based stabilisers in PVC are being phased out and hard wax is a critical component in the additives that are replacing the lead based product. An environmentally friendly application for hard wax is as an additive in bitumen used in road construction. The product is also used in printing ink. 2 December 2009 The investment will also result in increased production of medium waxes, mostly used by the candle industry in Southern Africa, as well as liquid paraffins used in a variety of industrial applications. Hard wax is used in a number of unique applications. An important application is in hot melt adhesives – the glue which is applied at high speed, for instance to seal cereal boxes or milk cartons. This is a rapidly growing application, especially in the developing world. Used in unique applications Sasol Wax is a major producer and marketer of synthetic and petroleum derived waxes, with production facilities in South Africa, North America, and Europe. Total production of all the wax products from the Sasolburg site near Johannesburg will increase by two-thirds. ‘Significant investment’ “This is a significant investment for the Sasolburg site and demonstrates our commitment to our South African Asset base,” Sasol GM Reiner Groh said in a statement this week. 30 September 2015Contact crimes in South Africa have dropped by 17.6% in the last 10 years. But these serious crimes against the person have seen a 0.9% increase in the past year. This is according to the annual national police statistics released by Police Minister Nathi Nhleko on Tuesday.Contact crimes include murder, attempted murder, assault, sexual offences such as rape, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The high levels of violence and aggression in society was a serious concern, the minister said, requiring all South Africans to end it.“The trends for the past 10 and five years have shown a decrease, while in the year under review there has been an increase in certain categories of crime,” Nhleko said. “In essence, the issue of contact crimes is a social phenomenon and is a matter that needs to be dealt with at a multidisciplinary level across society.”South Africa’s police force is responsible for a population of over 54 million, with one officer for every 358 citizens.“The National Development Plan places emphasis on the creation of partnerships in creating conditions of safety and security,” Nhleko said.“We will continue to work and harness efforts and remain committed to building partnerships with business and communities in fighting crime and the eradication of criminality from our society.”Brand South Africa’s flagship Play Your Part initiative aims to inspire South Africans to work together to overcome these and other pressing social problems. As active citizens we can all create positive change.Crime statistics in briefIn the 2014/15 financial year there were a total of 616 973 contact crimes reported to the police, making up 34.4% of all reported crimes. This was an increase of 5 399 from the 2013/14 reporting year.Contact-related crimes, which include arson and malicious injury to property, increased by 1.9%. Property – including burglary at non-residential premises, vehicle theft and stock theft – dropped by 0.8% in the past year.Other serious offences such as theft, fraud and shoplifting fell from 510 748 in 2013/14 to 499 698 in 2014/15. But car hijackings climbed by 14.2%, and truck hijacking by 29.1%. Robberies at residential premises also increased, by 5.2%.Police seem to be winning the war against bank robberies and cash-in-transit heists, the figures reveal. South Africa only saw 17 bank robberies in the past year – down from the previous 21 – while robberies of cash-in-transit vehicles fell from 145 to 119.While crimes against women and children remain a pressing social problem, the figures show progress. Sexual offences such as rape dropped in the past year, with the 53 617 incidents reported constituting a 5% decrease on the previous year.According to Nhleko, over 80% of South Africa’s national crime statistics are based on reports by the community – when someone walks into a police station to report a crime.Other than contact crime, the past 10 years have also seen a drop of 15.5% in contact-related crimes, a 7.6% decrease in other serious crimes, and a 2.3% decrease in property crime.Police arrested and charged perpetrators in 83.4% of the serious crime cases reported by the community, the minister said. A total of 1 795 947 people were arrested and charged, of which 4 808 were taken in by the elite Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, or Hawks. In the courts, 1 043 life sentences were imposed on 739 suspects, while 686 police were arrested for various types of crimes in 2014/15. Police also recovered 36 186 vehicles reported lost or stolen.Source: News24Wire

Pakistan’s limited over skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed, who is still basking in the glory of winning the Champions Trophy, is set to be appointed as the captain of the Test team as well.A senior official of the Pakistan Cricket Board told PTI that in principle when Chairman Shaharyar Khan, the head of the executive committee, Najam Sethi were in London for the Champions Trophy, it had been decided to promote Sarfaraz as Test captain.”It is now just a formality of the PCB Chairman making an announcement when he returns home. The decision has been taken and is final. Sarfaraz will take over as Test captain after being appointed as deputy to Misbah-ul-Haq on the recent tour to the West Indies,” the official said.He also said that after Shaharyar returns home in a week’s time, a meeting of the governing body will be held in which formal approval will be given for the appointment of Sarfraz as Test captain as he is already leading the ODI and T20 outfits with success.Misbah retired as Test captain after seven years in this position following the West Indies tour. He served as Test captain from late 2010 onwards going to become the most successful test captain for his country.Pakistan’s next Test series is not until September- October when it hosts Sri Lanka in the UAE. The long gap has come about after Pakistan pulled out of a scheduled Test tour of Bangladesh in July. The official said that a committee of former Test players, Haroon Rasheed and Mudassar Nazar who hold key positions in the board and chief operating officer, Subhan Ahmed will also submit its feedback on the performance of the support staff/coaches.advertisement”Any decision on the future of some coaches will be taken based on the committee’s suggestions. But Chairman, Shaharyar is delighted with the work of head coach, Mickey Arthur,” he said. The official conceded that it was Shaharyar who had convinced everyone in the board to go with Arthur last year after the resignation of Waqar Younis as head coach.Arthur’s contract will be reviewed next year in April and there is no reason now for him not to continue or get an extension,” another reliable source said.
