Rio Ferdinand tells Chelsea to hijack Arsenal move for Thomas Partey

The Ghana international had been earmarked as a priority target by Mikel Arteta but the cash-strapped Gunners have been unable to raise the funds required to activate the midfielder’s €50million release clause. Lucas Torreira is set to complete his loan move from Arsenal to Atletico Madrid this weekend, but that deal is said to have no bearing on Partey’s future and a potential move to north London. Chelsea, meanwhile, have embarked on a near unprecedented summer of spending with Lampard having made seven major signings already at a cost of well over £200m.AdvertisementAdvertisementADVERTISEMENTLampard still harbours an interest in West Ham’s England international Declan Rice, but their London rivals are determined to hold onto their prize asset and reports on Friday claimed the Blues could now switch their attention to Partey which would represent a shrew move, according to Ferdinand. Arsenal have failed to activate Thomas Partey’s Atletico Madrid release clause (Picture: Getty)He told BT Sport: ‘I think a huge thing for them is to stop conceding goals. I think Frank would have looked at it last season and three of the back four that will be playing today are new players.‘He’ll have seen that, a lot of goals conceded and I think the most conceded in 22 years at the club. Heisler: It’s not LeBron vs. Kobe … it’s OK to root for both Lakers

first_img How athletes protesting the national anthem has evolved over 17 years Trail Blazers, Grizzlies advance to NBA play-in game; Suns, Spurs see playoff dreams dashed (Of course, the organization helped, with GM Mitch Kupchak’s trade for Pau Gasol turning them around … and prompting Kobe to apologize, or as close as he ever came.)At that point in the fall of 2009, play-by-play man Joel Meyers called Bryant “the greatest Laker ever,” during a game telecast.Fleeting as the reference was, it touched off a furor with Lakers fans protesting that distinction belonged to Magic or West – both of whom then said it was, indeed, Kobe.Face it, the affection fans feel has everything to do with what their idols have done for them lately. In real life, James’ arrival changed everything for the Lakers, changing their perception, making it possible to attract another major star, rescuing them from their place among the wretches of the West (No. 11, 12 games from the last playoff slot), even if they had an adorable young nucleus.Nevertheless, if we’re talking about tangible contributions like points and rebounds, James hasn’t done one thing for the Lakers.Of course, this isn’t really LeBron’s fault since his first Lakers season hasn’t started yet.In the meantime, it’s a long offseason with a yawning news hole. Even the New York Times could run a whimsical but ultimately nonsensical story from the Las Vegas summer league headlined:“Why Kobe Bryant Fans Don’t Like LeBron James.”The random sample chosen by the Times was anyone wearing a Kobe jersey, so yes, it was a little tilted. On the other hand, it was still amazing to hear Lakers fans, coming off years of watching their team fall on its face, trashing LeBron.“He (Bryant) gave his heart for the love of the game,” said Nathan Andrews of Needles. “I’m not a fan of LeBron.”“I don’t even know where to start,” Stephanie Searrano of San Clemente said of James. “He’s such a diva sometimes.”“I never liked him,” said Janessa Jumul, a Lakers fan from Las Vegas. “I always thought he seemed really cocky.”“And dramatic,” said Janessa’s friend, Jessica Dawana. This will be a major scoop if Laker fans are still spitting defiance at James after the season starts … unlikely as that seems. When the NBA is back from vacation, it will also be only natural that Laker fans, whatever their choice in jerseys, will fall head over heels in love with LeBron. What’s the over/under on the first time they start chanting “M-V-P” – Kobe’s chant! – for LeBron?Related Articles I’m going with opening night.Nothing that the all-heart West did and exemplified ceased to exist when Johnson came along, nor did Kobe wipe out the memory of Magic’s passes and the smile he put on the face of the organization.Of course, Kobe’s gifts went far beyond basketball. He won an Academy Award for his heart-tugging “Dear Basketball” short which he wrote himself, an honor achieved by no professional athlete before him and, likely, none after him.In the real world, LeBron is also special far beyond the children’s game that he plays. The proof opened last week in his hometown of Akron, the “I Promise” school that he built for at-risk children, as he once was, who will get bicycles, meals and college tuition with a commitment from James that might reach $100 million.(This is an NBA column so I keep politics out of it. Nevertheless, whatever you think of last week’s exchange between President Donald Trump and James, we can all agree it’s good to be engaged politically, as LeBron is.)Of course, a fan’s world is what he chooses, populated with whom he or she chooses to love and hate for his or her own reasons, because it’s not really real and it’s fun. From the perspective of the Lakers, for whom this is a real world, they’re just glad that both Kobe and LeBron came along. Some fans’ refusal to accept that they can root for new Laker LeBron James, right, even if they still cherish former Laker Kobe Bryant, left, borders on ridiculous. (Mark Ralston, AFP/GettyImages) Crazy as it seemed, it was only natural that LeBron James’ scarcely imaginable arrival in Lakerdom prompted some fans not only to protest that they still love Kobe Bryant best, but to attack LeBron. It was dumb but it was natural.Hint: It’s OK to treasure both of them … as it was to treasure Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar et al. in Kobe’s heyday.Of course, everyone knows that Laker fans always maintained an undying love affair with Kobe … Lakers practice early hoping to answer all questions center_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREUCLA alum Kenny Clark signs four-year contract extension with PackersNot.If a lot of people have revised their memories, their adoration for Kobe blossomed only after his fourth and fifth NBA titles in 2009-2010, his gallant-if-futile final seasons and his 60-point farewell. Before that, he was relentlessly controversial from his me-first game to his feud with Shaquille O’Neal that prompted the Lakers to trade Shaq and crash to the depths of the Western Conference, and Kobe’s crazed summer of 2007 when he excoriated the organization from Jerry Buss (“idiot”) down and demanded to be traded.Sign up for Home Turf and get exclusive stories every SoCal sports fan must read, sent daily. Ironmen from B&H began preparing for the toughest Competition in the World

first_imgBosnia and Herzegovina will have its representatives at the Ironman triathlon which is to be held in Austria in June this year.It is a very demanding discipline where participants swim, ride a bike and run. It all takes a lot of strength and skills in order to endure this one-day competition and achieve enviable results. The months-long period of hard training is even tougher than the competition itself and made more difficult because of the winter. The ironman triathlon includes swimming in the length of 3.8 kilometers, riding a bike for 180 kilometers and running for 42,195 meters. The final section consists of running the marathon which is a challenge for itself because it is one of the hardest sports in the world.“Training for the Ironman triathlon requires a lot of will, sacrifice and organization, because in our case we are not speaking about professional triathletes, but very busy managers and we will have to make our full daily schedules even tighter and include at least 15 hours of training per week. The first half of the year will be very demanding. Until June 2016 we have to train twice per day nearly every day of the week. In late June we will go to that competition. Temperatures can reach 40 degrees with ease and in the period between 11 and 15 hours we will cross 226 kilometers as fast as possible and without making breaks,” Erol Mujanović explained.“Each of the three sections has a defined period for completion, so if you are a world champion in running or cycling but you are a slow swimmer, you can still be eliminated from the competition. You cannot underestimate any of the three disciplines,” Tomislav Cvitanušić added.Ironmen from B&H are Tomislav Cvitanušić, Emir Baralić, Dario Ružić and Erol Mujanović.(Source: read more
